Prohibited and Restricted Items
What can never go, what carriers and destinations restrict, and what the check at booking does.
Last updated
You may not ship anything prohibited by Indian export law, by the destination country, or by the carrier handling the consignment. At booking every item's 8-digit HSN is checked against our restricted-item rules: blocked items cannot be booked, and flagged items book with a warning. Nothing is held for a review: your declaration below is the control.
Never carried
- Arms, ammunition, explosives, fireworks and their parts
- Narcotics, psychotropic substances and drug paraphernalia
- Currency, banknotes, coins, negotiable instruments, stamps and lottery tickets
- Tobacco products, e-cigarettes and vaping liquids
- Live animals, animal products restricted under wildlife law (ivory, shahtoosh, reptile skins), and plants or seeds without phytosanitary certification
- Human remains and biological samples
- Pornographic or obscene material, and counterfeit or pirated goods
- Antiques and art objects over 100 years old without an Archaeological Survey of India certificate
- Precious stones and bullion outside a licensed, insured channel
Restricted by carriers or destinations: your responsibility
- Lithium batteries and any goods containing them (UN3480/UN3481), power banks
- Perfumes, aerosols, nail polish, sanitisers and other flammable liquids
- Medicines, supplements and cosmetics that need destination registration (for example FDA rules in the US)
- Food and beverages beyond the destination's personal-import allowance
- Liquids over the carrier's volume limit, powders and pressurised containers
- Anything requiring an export licence under the Foreign Trade Policy
These book like any other consignment. The carrier may refuse them at pickup, and the destination may hold or seize them; that cost is yours.
Your declaration
Every booking carries your declaration that the consignment contains no prohibited items and that the descriptions, values, quantities and origin are true. Mis-declaration is your risk entirely: it can result in seizure, penalties and prosecution at destination, return-to-origin at your cost, and suspension of your account.
